A hole in your favourite scarf, hat, or jumper is no reason to abandon it, mend it!
The diagrams below from the queen of repair, Maureen Goldsworthy, explain simple darning.
You do not need to be an experienced needle person, you just need a darning needle, some yarn and a darning mushroom or wooden spoon. If you only have thick hand knitting yarn at home you can unravel it to create a finer yarn. The yarn doesn't have to match, a contrast colour can be a creative feature of your darn.
Set yourself up in good light by a sunny window or in the garden if you are lucky enough to have one, grab a cup of tea, a good podcast and you will be using your lockdown time well. The good feeling of achieving something at the end of the day and learning a new skill.
