Slow Ship To Scotland
We love sheep from all over the world. They produce our favourite fibre – wool – 100% natural and 100% warm. The further north you go, the thicker the wool fibre. The further south, the finer and softer the fibre.
Scottish fleece is strong and robust as it responds to the harsh weather, whereas, the lambswool that we use comes from South African sheep who have developed a softer, finer fleece to suit their climate. This is perfect for our fine, luxurious knitwear collection and is as soft as cashmere when it has been spun by our Scottish yarn spinner Todd & Duncan.
Todd & Duncan choose South Africa over anywhere else in the world as farms there have very high animal welfare standards and prohibit the practice of mulesing. The raw wool travels by container ship to the UK once a year.
Crofters around Scotland produce beautiful wool for hand knitting from hardy heritage breeds. One of our favourites is the Birlinn Yarn Company on the Isle of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides.
